Gemma Messih – Bio
Gemma Messih (b.1989) is an emerging artist from Sydney, Australia. The artist’s cross-disciplinary practice explores our relationship to, interaction with and understanding of the natural world. Aiming to slow down human perception and our experience of environmental phenomena, ideas of curiosity are investigated through open experimentation, both with ideas and the raw potential of materials.
Messih’s practice often investigates the sculptural possibilities of photography and the potential the medium has to perform. A sense of movement and change, either past, potential or inevitable is often incorporated and aims to mimic the observed rhythms, repetitions and phases of the natural world.
Since graduating from College of Fine Arts, UNSW in 2010 Messih has undertaken a number of artist residencies and participated in numerous group exhibitions including Photo-Sculpture - Pictures, objects and paradox, Coordinated by Sarah Mosca, MOP Projects, Sydney, AU (2012), and As brave as you, Kudos Gallery, Sydney, NSW, AU (2011).
