Congratulations to Ella Dreyfus, Merilyn Fairskye, Anne Ferran and Justine Varga who have been selected as finalists in this years ‘Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award’.
Now in its 13th year, ‘The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award’ is considered one of the most important annual surveys of contemporary Australian photographic practice.
Ella Dreyfus will be represented by her work #11 from Under Twelve Under Twenty which exhibited at Stills Gallery in 2012. This series follows a group of young boys first photographed at 12 years of age and photographed again seven years later.
Merilyn Fairskye’s new work Open Pit from Long Life, 2013 has been selected in which she looks at the impact of mining on the environment in Mirarr country inside Kakadu National Park.
New work from Anne Ferran’s forthcoming series Box of Birds is included in the prize, as well as Justine Varga’s beautifully minimalist work Moving out #8 from her 2012 exhibition at Stills Gallery.
The award will be judged by another Stills Gallery favourite, New Zealand photographer Anne Noble.
