Pat Brassington
Pat Brassington, one of Australia’s leading artists, is celebrated for her unique visual language that is at once charming and menacing.
Blurring the boundaries of reality and fantasy, desire and repulsion, her images have a surreal, dreamlike quality. They challenge our senses and undermine the authority of photography.
The works currently exhibited at Stills on the Street show how the artist explores psychological and emotional space through unusual depictions of physical space. The images take us outside to a sunset and winding road that appear apocalyptic rather than romantic; between the pages of a book to find unexpected pressings; and into a claustrophobic domestic space, filled with patterned fabrics and human limbs.
