Jackie Ranken
Exhibition: 20 November to 23 December, 2002
Recently awarded AAIP Photographer of the Year 2002, Jackie Ranken is getting noticed for her wonderful aerial photographs of the rural landscape around her home in Goulburn NSW. Having a father who does aerobatics in a Tiger Moth has enabled her to extend her images of the landscape beyond mere documentation. Her beautifully crafted images usually lack a horizon or sense of linear perspective. Initially, the imagery seems indecipherable; familiar landscapes and landmarks become compositions of texture, line and tone. One can be absorbed by the marks humans have made on the land: random tyre tracks, pockets of water, straight fence lines, alien to the natural flow and subtleties of the land.
