Luke Hardy

Along very different lines, Luke Hardy offers ob'sequiae (from the Latin, meaning "to follow"). Ob'sequiae is a meditation on ritual, time and following. The images of 9 Buddhist monks arranged in order of age refer to the morning alms procession, an essential and unchanging feature of monastic life. Initially, this grid featuring the monks in 4 rows or sequences, seems to feature identical images. But as the viewers' eyes move along the lines, incremental variations in the demeanor of some of the monks reveal themselves. The implied solemnity is sporadically interrupted, but the overall determination of each line, and their purpose or fate, are not.
